Meanwhile, FBI Agent Shawn Cleary is trying to convince her associates that recent suicides are the result of an ingenious criminal conspiracy. She theorizes that a splinter group is mimicking the NSA’s eavesdropping, identifying would be criminals, and cleverly eliminating them. The self-named Patronus prevents a massacre and declares society as its client.

Third Breath The Cleary Case Files Book 3 edition by Patricia Clark Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
FBI Special Agent Shawn Cleary is trying to convince her superiors that a series of assumed suicides are actually acts of murder by some vast conspiracy. In the meantime, a deadly and often fatal disease breaks out in widely separated locations around the country. The FBI taps Shawn’s best friend, medical researcher Jaimie Carpenter to identify the super bug behind the outbreak.Working together, the two women become involved in a conspiracy beyond anything they’d imagined. A drug company CEO who puts profit and position above anything, a serial killer with an ambitious agenda, and a shadowy organization, ‘The Protectors,’ that is taking the law into its own hands and eliminating terrorist and criminal threats extrajudicially. To further complicate matters, Jaimie is paired with a handsome FBI agent in an undercover operation, and the sparks that fly between them threaten not only to derail the mission, but puts them in jeopardy.
Third Breath by Patricia Clark is an exquisitely-written medical thriller, and the author uses her medical knowledge to add to the suspense—but, it’s not the technical aspects of this story that truly entertain. Ms. Clark uses the interpersonal dynamics, whether it’s sexual tension between Jaimie and her partner, or a wife’s reaction to being beaten by her abusive husband, to advance the story, and explain character motivation and action, and it’s these moments of conflict between characters that is the strong point of the book. In fact, about midway through, the search for an antidote to the superbug becomes secondary to catching the bad guys and eluding the deadly tentacles of The Protectors.
This is a book that, once you start reading, you won’t be able to put down.

Third Breath The Cleary Case Files Book 3 edition by Patricia Clark Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This really was a great story with an even better ending. It kept me guessing to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This book, the third in the trilogy, was okay. The story itself was good, and I think this author has potential. However, the many, many mistakes in this book were very distracting from the story itself. Too many missing words, too many spelling errors, and too many mistakes like the character Marti - introduced in the first novel, and throughout all three books, she is referred to as Marty instead of Marti. Also -- "he"s and "she"s get tangled up, and the dialogue gets confusing. The first book in the trilogy has a lot fewer mistakes, and by definition makes it the best book of the three.
An antibiotic resistant bacterium starts killing people, including a high proportion of the powerful and famous. This means that a ruthless pharmaceutical executive can twist Congress' arm for favorable legislation as well as make huge profits on their new antibiotic, once they finish development. In the meantime, a covert group is at first quietly but later with more publicity, is taking out terrorist wannabes. A group of FBI agents and a dedicated epidemiologist work together to solve both cases.
The heroes are all appealing, if not terribly individual, and the plot moves quickly and smoothly. There's enough scientific detail to be interesting but not so much it gets bogged down. Overall, a good page turner.
Some sex and violence, but nothing too explicit. There are scenes of domestic violence, if that's an issue.
This was an interesting story, however the great number of characters in the book was a bit overwhelming. Also the frequent use of names for characters which can be given to either men or women added confusion when the character is first introduced.
There is a need for editing of the book, for example, numerous references to a female character as "he" when the character if female, and vice versa.
The story seemed to be a little slow in the middle section, with little real action taking place. The ending of the story was a bit of anticlimax.
I bought all 3 books back during the early part of the summer and read one right after another. Each book has had a satisfying conclusion to the story in that particular book--but we still don't know what will happen to the Gant twins. I keep hoping with each book that there will be some closure concerning Trevor and Mitchell Gant.
All being said, I still enjoyed this story very much. One of the reasons is because of the medical aspect of the story. I could tell just from reading it that Patricia Clark had a medical background because I was a Critical Care nurse myself for 33 years. And sure enough, when I read "about the author" I discovered that she was also a nurse. Medical stories always interests me.
Even though Shawn Cleary was in this story, she was not who this story focus so much on. It was mainly focused on her best friend Jammie, and a fellow FBI agent, Alex. I really liked both of these characters and enjoyed the interaction between the 2.
I hope the author continues to write more of the Cleary case files and that she also keeps the cost as low as the first 3 so that I can continue to buy them. I would definitely buy more if she does. Being a senior citizen on a limited income it is hard for me to buy really good books because they are usually out of my price range--and these are very good books. I do have to say that as I read each book, each one seemed to be better than the one before.
There are several mysteries to be solved in this story--#1--who created and released the bacteria that was killing people, and #2--who were the vigil anti-group taking care of all the bad guys. There were some smaller mysteries too but I won't mention them or that will spoil some of the story. As far as the vigil anti-group goes, it is hard to fault them for doing what they do even though you know it is wrong. It's hard to dislike someone for getting rid of really evil people that our justice system can't seem to do anything about. At the end of the story, I was very surprised about someone who was in this group.
